Compound sentence

A compound sentence contains two or more independent clauses, which are typically linked by coordinating conjunctions such as “and,” “For” “but,” or “or.” An example of a compound sentence is, “He trains animals, and provides them nutritious food..” Here, both clauses are complete thoughts. They are combined to convey a more complex idea while maintaining their independence.

Complex sentence

A complex sentence includes one independent clause and at least one dependent clause. A dependent clause, which adds additional information to the main clause, cannot stand alone. For instance, “He trains animals because trained animals are much more expensive.” In this example, “because trained animals are much more expensive.” is the dependent clause providing context, while “He trains animals” functions as the independent clause that can stand alone.

Complex – compound sentence

As the name indicates that complex – compound sentence is the combination of key elements of complex and compound sentence. It includes at least two independent clauses and one dependent clause. But, it is not compulsory to take single dependent clause. It depends on purpose of communication.

For example, “He trains animals, and provides them nutritious food because trained animals are much more expensive as he uses them in circus.” In this example, there are two independent clauses: He teains animals, and provides them nutritious food. And, there is two dependent clauses as well: because trained animals are much more expensive as he uses them in circus.
